FedEx (FedEx Express) acquired the Netherlands TNT Express for 4.4 billion euros (about 4.9 billion US dollars).Subsequently, China’s Ministry of Commerce also unconditionally approved the takeover offer.According to the TNT official website, TNT is operating as FedEx in the US.
TNT was founded in1946 and is headquartered in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. TNT International Express has more than 1,200 branches and 151,000 employees in more than 200 countries and regions around the world.
FedEx was founded in 1973 and is headquartered in Tennessee, USA. TNT International Express operates in more than 220 countries and regions around the world and has 340,000 employees. The daily parcel volume exceeds 11.5 million, with more than 100,000 vehicles and 657 aircraft.
Earlier, TNT’s merger agreement with UPS was rejected by the European Union. The EU’s antitrust regulators reasoned that the acquisition would limit competition in the packaging and express delivery business of 15 member states. However, in January 2016, the European Commission concluded its review of FedEx’s acquisition of TNT, arguing that the acquisition would not raise competition issues.
The former four major international express UPS, FedEx, DHL, TNT. Although TNT is the weakest among them, its advantages in Europe should not be underestimated. In the integration of FedEx and TNT, if the aircrafts of the two sides add up, there will be nearly 730 sorties, and FedEx will become the “air overlord” in the world express delivery field.
